Special event of Onam festival

August 22 will be a special day for the culture and food lovers of Kerala living in Mumbai. Onam Aaghosham will be hosted at The Merchants restaurant at Fairmont Mumbai, celebrating the traditional Onam festival with cultural and culinary heritage. This program will provide an opportunity to experience the ancient traditions of Kerala.

Importance of Onam Aaghosham

This special festival is being organized in collaboration with Backwaters Chechie, which will be led by Shobha Pillai Coutinho. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy traditional music, art and authentic Kerala cuisine throughout the day. The main attraction of the event will be the traditional Onasadya served on banana leaves.

Onam Aaghosham means public and cultural celebration of Onam. It is a celebration of Kerala's traditional harvest festival Onam, a ten-day celebration of the Malayalam month of Chingam. During this time, communities, families and cultural institutions come together to enjoy the festival through music, dance, feast and traditional programs.

Traditional Onasadya Experience

The highlight of the event will be the traditional Onasadya, served on a fresh banana leaf. The menu will include authentic Kerala dishes like Kaya Uppari, Sugar Varatti, Pineapple Pachadi, Avial, Olan, Kalan and Erissery.

Along with this, Kerala Matta Rice, Sambar and Rasam will be served to the guests. The meal will conclude with the traditional sweets Ada Pradaman and Thiruvonam Payasam. This entire Sadya has been designed to give you an experience of the traditional cooking style of Kerala.

Confluence of music and art

Onam Aaghosham will not be limited to food only. Live music will be organized throughout the day, allowing guests to enjoy the cultural tunes of Kerala. Apart from this, activities to traditional arts and handicrafts will also be a part of this celebration.

The organizers aim to present the cultural heritage of Onam together through food, music and art. Through such events, the vibrant identity of Kerala's folk traditions and festivals can be seen even in big cities.

Glimpse of Onam traditions

Sadya is not the only identity of Onam festival. One of its most famous traditions includes the Pookkalam, colorful flower decorations that adorn the entrances of homes and events. It is considered a symbol of welcome of King Mahabali.

Apart from this, Thiruvathirakali, Pulikali and the famous Vallam Kali i.e. Snake Boat Race are also the cultural identity of Onam. This festival organized in Mumbai will try to bring alive the spirit of these traditions through music, art and community celebration.
