Scoring a century in T20Is requires exceptional power, timing and consistency, making a hundred in fewer than 40 deliveries a remarkable feat. India have witnessed this kind of explosive batting from Rohit Sharma and Abhishek Sharma, who occupy the top two spots among Indian batters for the fastest T20I centuries.

Rohit produced one of the most destructive innings of his career against Sri Lanka in 2017, reaching his century in just 35 balls. Although it remains a record for India, it is not the fastest T20I century in international cricket, with several batters around the world having reached three figures in fewer deliveries.

Abhishek Sharma later joined Rohit at the top of India’s list. The young left-hander smashed a 37-ball century against England in 2025, putting him second behind Rohit for India’s fastest T20I hundreds.

Fastest T20I Centuries for India

Rohit and Abhishek’s performances stand out because of the remarkable speed at which they reached the landmark. While Rohit needed only 35 deliveries, Abhishek took 37 balls to complete his century.

Their innings underline the aggressive approach that has become increasingly important in modern T20 cricket.

Sachin’s ‘Nervous Nineties’ Record

Another notable record in international cricket belongs to Sachin Tendulkar, although it is one he would perhaps have preferred to avoid. The legendary Indian batter was dismissed between 90 and 99 on 28 occasions during his international career.

The statistic is commonly associated with the term ‘nervous nineties’, which describes the pressure batters face when approaching a century. Several other top players have experienced the same disappointment, including former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.

Getting dismissed after crossing 90 can be particularly frustrating, as the batter is just a few runs away from a major personal milestone. Tendulkar’s 28 dismissals in the 90s remain a striking statistic from his celebrated international career.
