Hyderabad: A 24-year-old man died after jumping from the 7th floor of a building in Masab Tank, police said on Friday, August 21. The deceased was allegedly pressured to repair a damaged bike of one of the accused, which pushed him to take the extreme step.

According to the police, the deceased, Mir Sofiyan Ali, a private employee, had borrowed a Royal Enfield bike from Mohammed Hanzala Pasha and Mohammed Isaq Uddin and damaged it after getting into a road accident.

The bike was then kept at Sofiyan’s house, and the other two repeatedly pressured him for repairs even after he confessed that he had no money to get the vehicle repaired.

During the early hours of August 20, the two called Sofiyan to the Marwa Liberty apartment in First Lancer, Masab Tank, where they were having a dinner party on the terrace along with three other people.

There, they reportedly pressured Sofiyan over the bike again, and he threatened to jump from the building over the harassment. Hanzala Pasha and Isaq Uddin reportedly said that they did not care about Sofiyan’s life, prompting him to jump.

Sofiyan’s friend, Sharukh, was waiting for him downstairs and reportedly heard loud quarrelling before learning that Sofiyan had fallen. Sharukh called Sofiyan’s parents and informed them of the incident.

Sofiyan was first shifted to Mahavir Hospital, then to CARE Hospital in Nampally and finally to Osmania General Hospital. He died while undergoing treatment on August 20.

A case has been registered under section 108 (abetment to commit suicide) read with section 3(5) (joint liability for a crime committed by multiple people) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Five people, namely, Mohammed Hanzala Pasha, Mohammed Isaq Uddin, Musthafa Khan, Mohd Nawaaz and Md Imran Khan, have been taken into custody and will be produced before a court for judicial remand.

Further investigation is underway.
