Hyderabad: The Excise and Prohibition Department officials seized 30.5 grams of brown sugar from a 28-year-old man during vehicle and pedestrian checks on Matangi Road in the Patancheru area on Friday, August 21.
According to Shamshabad Excise Superintendent Radhakrishna Reddy, the suspect was identified as Jessie Moddeen, a native of West Bengal. He had reportedly come to the area in search of work but was allegedly involved in the sale of brown sugar.
The excise officials seized the contraband from his possession and registered a case at the Patancheru Excise Station. Further investigation is underway.
Just a day ago, the department officials had seized 11.16 kg of ganja worth an estimated Rs. 6 lakh from a train travelling from Tandur to Secunderabad.
However, the person who had allegedly brought the ganja on the train could not be identified. Officials suspect that the culprit noticed the checks and managed to escape before being apprehended.
The Excise Department registered an unknown-person case and launched an investigation to identify the person responsible for transporting the contraband.
