Importance of Rakshabandhan

New Delhi: Rakshabandhan, a symbol of unbreakable love and trust between brother and sister, is celebrated every year on the full moon day of Sawan month. This year, there is some confusion regarding the date of Rakshabandhan whether it will be celebrated on 27th August or 28th August. According to religious texts and scholars, it would be appropriate and auspicious to celebrate the festival of Rakshabandhan on 28 August 2026, giving priority to Udaya Tithi. On this day, the festival of Rakshabandhan will be celebrated with great pomp across the country.

full moon date time

According to astrologers, the full moon date of Saavan month will start from 9:08 am on 27th August 2026 and it will continue till 9:48 am the next day on 28th August. According to Sanatan tradition, priority is given to the date of sunrise for any festival. Since the full moon will be present at the time of sunrise on 28th August, the main festival of Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on this day.

Auspicious time to tie Rakhi

Many times siblings have to face shortage of time due to travel or other reasons. Keeping this situation in mind, there will be two auspicious times to tie Rakhi on 28th August. The first Muhurta will start from 6:24 am till 9:48 am, in which sisters can tie Raksha Sutra on the wrists of their brothers. If one is unable to make use of the morning muhurat, the other option will be 'Abhijeet Muhurat', which will be from 12:01 pm to 1:05 pm.

effect of lunar eclipse

Rakshabandhan is often influenced by Bhadra period, but this time it is a matter of relief for the devotees. On August 27, Bhadra will start at 9:08 am and end at 9:32 pm. Since the main festival is being celebrated on 28th August, there will be no effect of Bhadra on that day. Apart from this, the lunar eclipse occurring on August 28 will be invisible in India, hence it will not have any religious impact. On this day, the festival of Rakshabandhan can be celebrated with full devotion and joy.
