New Delhi. Google has started its first office in Pakistan. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the company's new office in Islamabad during a meeting with Google's delegation. The Prime Minister's Office of Pakistan shared this information on social media platform X.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Google's local presence in Pakistan will help boost technology and digital economy in the country. The government is emphasizing on providing training to the youth in digital technology, IT and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Google can play an important role in this direction.
Google delegation met PM
Google's delegation led by Wilson White, vice president of government and public policy, met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The delegation was also accompanied by Charge d'Affaires Natalie Baker of the US Embassy in Islamabad.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan is going through a massive digital transformation. This also includes digitalization of the economy. Giving information about the government's 'Digital Nation Pakistan' vision, he reiterated the commitment to upgrade the IT infrastructure.

AI and IT training to youth
Shahbaz Sharif said that the government is running many programs to provide IT and AI training to the youth. He expressed hope that Google will help in taking these efforts to a larger level.
The Prime Minister said that establishing Google's local presence in Pakistan will strengthen the partnership between the two and will enable effective programs to be launched on a large scale to advance the digital economy.
Focus on Chromebook assembly too
Google official Wilson White informed the Prime Minister about the company's future plans in Pakistan. He also mentioned the Chromebook assembly line it has set up with local partners.
According to White, there is good potential for exporting Chromebooks being assembled in Pakistan to other countries in the region. This can also boost Pakistan's technology and manufacturing sector.
