Tezzbuzz Desk- Dengue is usually associated with high fever, body ache, headache and weakness. Most patients recover with proper rest, adequate fluids and doctor's advice. But in some cases dengue can take a serious form. Especially ignoring symptoms like continuous vomiting, severe headache, stomach ache or bleeding as normal can prove costly. Nausea and sometimes vomiting can be common symptoms in dengue. But if the patient is vomiting repeatedly, water or other fluids are not being retained in the body or vomiting is continuously increasing, then it should not be considered a normal symptom. Continuous vomiting can cause deficiency of water and electrolytes in the body, which can increase weakness and dehydration of the patient. In such a situation, it is important to contact the doctor immediately.
According to Dr. Prakhar Garg, Associate Director Internal Medicine, Yatharth Hospital, vomiting every time in dengue is not a sign of serious disease, but repeated vomiting should not be ignored. Especially if the patient is unable to take fluids, urination is decreasing, feeling extreme weakness or vomiting along with severe stomach pain, then immediate medical advice should be sought. Severe headache is also quite common in dengue. Many patients complain of headache along with pain behind the eyes. However, if the headache is unusually severe, increases continuously or is accompanied by symptoms like frequent vomiting, confusion, excessive sleep, restlessness, stiff neck, fainting or seizures, then one should not consider it as a normal dengue symptom and wait at home. In such a situation, it may be necessary to go to the hospital immediately.
Special attention should also be paid to some other warning signs during dengue. Severe stomach pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, visible blood in vomit or stool, extreme weakness, restlessness, trouble breathing and extreme lethargy can be signs of a serious condition. If any of these symptoms appear, the patient should get medical care as soon as possible. An important thing in dengue is that Remission of fever is not always a sign that the danger is over. Many times the family feels that the fever has subsided, hence the patient is recovering. But the time around the reduction of fever in dengue can be important for some patients. During this time, warning symptoms may appear. Therefore, it is important to constantly monitor the patient's condition during this period.
The patient should try to take adequate fluids and rest as per the doctor's advice. It is not right to take any medicine on your own for dengue fever and pain. Especially such painkillers should be avoided, which can increase the risk of bleeding. Always take the medicine only after consulting the doctor. The most important thing is that the severity of dengue should not be estimated only by looking at the number of platelets. The doctor takes the decision after looking at the patient's symptoms, blood test and his overall clinical condition. Therefore, instead of ignoring persistent vomiting, unusual headache or any warning sign, the safest way is to seek timely medical help.
