Xabi Alonso set to sanction three exits as Chelsea look to trim squad before new season

Chelsea could be in for a hectic end to the summer transfer window, with Nicolas Jackson, Liam Delap and Tosin Adarabioyo all open to leaving Stamford Bridge. The three players were omitted from Chelsea’s squad for the 3-1 pre-season win over Real Sociedad, a notable call with the Premier League season now close.

Xabi Alonso has taken charge of a huge squad and is now working to cut it down after yet another costly summer in the transfer market.

Chelsea have already brought in significant money through player sales, but more exits are anticipated before the transfer deadline.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Jackson, Delap and Tosin are all available for transfer after being left out of the squad for the latest friendly.

Jackson looks especially likely to draw attention. Sky Sports says Chelsea have placed a valuation of around £65 million on the Senegal international, with Aston Villa among the sides showing interest after his loan spell at Bayern Munich.

Delap may also move on even though he arrived at Chelsea from Ipswich for £30m only last summer.

Chelsea are understood to value him at roughly £50m, with the battle for striker spots becoming tougher after the arrival of Danny Welbeck.

The financial picture around Tosin is less certain, though Sky Sports has confirmed there has been interest in the former Fulham centre-back as Alonso looks to reduce his options in central defence.

From a squad-planning point of view, selling all three would be a logical step.

Chelsea currently have an excess of options in both attack and defence. Jackson and Delap are facing strong competition for playing time, while Alonso is keen to slim down a centre-back department that is still overcrowded.

Jackson is probably the most valuable of the possible departures. At £65m, Chelsea could raise major funds while also giving a player who needs consistent game time the chance to revive his career elsewhere.

Delap’s case is slightly different. Letting him go after just one season could seem hasty, particularly if interested clubs are unwilling to meet Chelsea’s £50m asking price.

Tosin, meanwhile, has enough experience to attract interest from the Premier League or elsewhere in Europe and may be simpler to move on without seriously weakening the defence Alonso is expected to rely on.
