AC Milan produced a stirring comeback to beat Manchester United 4-2, with Samuel Chukwueze and Goncalo Ramos leading the way as Ruben Amorim’s men claimed the Super Cup trophy.

Followed live, this was the final friendly for Amorim’s side before their Serie A opener against Torino.

AC Milan came from behind to defeat Manchester United 4-2, winning the Super Cup trophy and securing their first victory of pre-season. More significantly, they carried on their summer build-up with several encouraging signs, along with a few concerns, in this high-profile friendly played on Ferragosto at 4.45pm in Wroclaw.

After drawing the derby against Inter in Perth and then suffering a heavy 3-0 loss to Chelsea in Indonesia, AC Milan under Ruben Amorim — a former United man who had parted on bad terms with the English club and who got a small measure of revenge here — turned the contest around in Poland against Michael Carrick’s Red Devils.

Harry Maguire opened the scoring from a corner, before Chukwueze equalised from a Ramos assist before the interval. After the break, Dorgu restored United’s lead following an error by Terracciano, Cisse finished from a Chukwueze set-up, Ramos then scored from another delivery by the Nigerian, and Loftus-Cheek added the fourth from an assist by the Portuguese forward. AC Milan were lively and incisive in attack, with Chukwueze and Ramos both contributing one goal and two assists, while the latter netted his first goal on his first start for the Rossoneri. Defensively, however, there is still work to be done, and that goes beyond Terracciano’s dreadful display. Torriani also saved a penalty from Bruno Fernandes.

With seven days to go before their Serie A debut, set for Sunday 23 August at 8.45pm against Torino, this was the last test for the Rossoneri, who are still dealing with several absences caused by injuries and transfer-market issues. Left out for technical reasons were Fofana, Tomori, Odogu and Nkunku, all now on the fringes of the project, while Gabbia, Gimenez, Leao and Pulisic missed out because of various physical problems.

90'+2' - Modric floats a superb outside-of-the-boot pass through for Comotto, but at the far post he is unable to beat Lammens.

81' - Torriani keeps out Rashford in a one-on-one, blocking the English forward’s shot after he had broken away from Gila and sparing Milan a third goal conceded.

71' - MILAN MAKE IT FOUR, LOFTUS-CHEEK! The English midfielder gets his name on the scoresheet as well, played through by a brilliant touch from the irrepressible Ramos. The former Chelsea player powers clear from beyond halfway and beats Lammens at the near post. For Ramos, it is one goal and two assists.

68' - MILAN GO AHEAD, RAMOS MAKES IT 3-2! AC Milan put together a superb move, building from the back and circulating possession for almost a minute. Then Ramos again releases Chukwueze down the right, the Nigerian sends in a precise cross and the Portuguese heads in with a wide triangle. That makes two assists and a goal for the Nigerian.

57' - MILAN EQUALISE, CISSE! AC Milan work the move well from the back through Cisse, who finds Ramos, and he lays it off to send Chukwueze down the right. The Nigerian does brilliantly to cross rather than shoot, and the former Catanzaro man arrives at the far post to make it 2-2.

51' - UNITED GO BACK IN FRONT, DORGU! Terracciano makes a dreadful mistake, playing a weak pass back towards Torriani without noticing Dorgu closing in. It is simple for the former Lecce player to pounce and make it 2-1, another moment of madness from Terracciano.

47' - AC Milan are under pressure: United win a free-kick on the right, a header is nodded back into the middle and Terracciano nearly turns it into his own net, but Torriani gathers safely.

41' - TORRIANI SAVES BRUNO FERNANDES' PENALTY! The Milan goalkeeper does well, diving low to his right to keep out the Portuguese midfielder.

40' - Penalty to United! Terracciano loses his composure while trying to play out, attempting to beat two men before giving the ball away inside the box. Marciniak then sees a foul by De Winter on Tielemans that did not exist and points to the spot for a penalty that should never have been awarded.

37' - MILAN EQUALISE, CHUKWUEZE! Mazraoui makes the mistake, Jashari wins possession back and drives forward, then slips it to Goncalo Ramos. The former PSG player is excellent, entering the area and, instead of shooting, producing a wonderful no-look pass for the Nigerian, who taps into an empty net. What an assist from the Portuguese!

25' - Bruno Fernandes breaks down the left, is picked out and drags a left-footed effort wide.

23' - Cisse is involved again with a fine run down the left: he gets into the box, beats his marker with a stepover and then shoots weakly at the near post.

18' - AC Milan go close once more, the ball reaches Cisse after a one-two and his first-time shot flies over the bar.

15' - AC Milan threaten again, with confusion in the area after a fine dribble by Chukwueze and the ball falls to Loftus-Cheek: right-footed effort, Lammens saves with his foot.

8' - AC Milan respond with a good move started by Pavlovic, who finds Jashari, and his lay-off into the middle picks out Loftus-Cheek: a powerful strike from the edge of the box, but straight at goal.

2' - UNITED SCORE IMMEDIATELY, MAGUIRE! A corner from the left, the English defender creates space, rises above Musah and heads in for 1-0. A shock start for AC Milan.

1' - United threaten right away: Dorgu bursts down the left, drives into the box and hits a powerful effort, with Torriani doing well to turn it behind for a corner.
