Tottenham completed the fan-facing part of their pre-season programme with a 3-0 victory over Bundesliga side Hoffenheim at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Richarlison scored the opening goal in the first half, finishing after meeting a deflected cross from Andy Robertson following an excellent turn and driving run from £100million summer arrival Sandro Tonali.
It was the kind of goal that typifies a Roberto De Zerbi team: sharp passing and movement, fluid attacking football, and a composed finish.
Spurs found the early stages difficult, with a number of their passing patterns breaking down or appearing hurried and untidy, but they took control as Hoffenheim dropped deep and the match progressed.
The north London club started with several senior players still unavailable, though some of them could feature in another friendly against the same opponents behind closed doors on Sunday at Hotspur Way.
Micky Van de Ven was a particularly notable absentee, while Mohammed Kudus and Mateus Fernandes were also missing. World Cup winner Pedro Porro received a hero’s welcome and a huge ovation when he showed his winners’ medal to the Spurs supporters before kick-off.
There were impressive displays from Robertson at left-back, where his intelligence and energy on the flank were matched by his pinpoint delivery.
Tonali also stood out in midfield, while Mikey Moore looked dangerous on the right wing and caused constant problems for former Brighton left-back Bernardo. He got the goal his display deserved just before the hour, drifting into the box to turn in Mathys Tel’s cross.
Moore, who spent last season on loan at Rangers, added his second with ten minutes remaining after being picked out once more by Tel, before calmly finishing past Oliver Baumann.
