Island Restaurant in London’s King’s Cross, which was recommended by the Michelin Guide, will close on Aug. 16 after more than a year in operation.

Chef Tom Brown, a finalist on the 2018 edition of the BBC’s “Great British Menu”, and chef Brad Carter, who appeared on “Saturday Kitchen Live”, announced the closure in an Instagram post, British newspaper The Sun reported.

The chefs opened the restaurant in June last year.

“We wanted to give this place a proper send-off and anyone who knows us – know we don’t do things quietly,” the duo wrote.

The statement also thanked all the staff and customers.

The restaurant’s menu centered on British produce, offering a selection of organic meats, wild-caught fish and seasonal ingredients.

Its dishes included grilled shawarma prawns, steak tartare, seabass, mussels and piri piri chicken. For dessert, diners could choose from options such as chocolate fudge layer cake and fried rhubarb pie served with tonka bean custard.

It was added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland in November last year, earning recognition for its “positive atmosphere” and “friendly service.”

Once widely dismissed on the international stage, the U.K. has undergone a major culinary transformation over recent decades, with London at one point celebrated as a global food capital.

However, the sector is now facing renewed pressure, with a number of Michelin-starred restaurants closing and concerns growing that financial strain is spreading more widely across the fine-dining industry, The Guardian reported.
