Young players at Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham are among the emerging talents who could be on the verge of a defining breakthrough campaign in 2026-27.

While established superstars and marquee signings usually dominate the conversation, there is a particular thrill in watching academy-produced talent test themselves against seasoned, world-class opposition.

Here are six Premier League wonderkids who look ready to make a serious leap in 2026-27.

“We have to manage him like a precious diamond,” Roberto De Zerbi said about Williams-Barnett after an impressive pre-season.

“We have to help him to improve in the last decision.

“Physically, work harder to become stronger because this time of football, he needs to be strong, and to give him space when there is the right moment.

Ben Davies is another admirer of the 17-year-old midfielder from Luton.

“He’s a really top player,” the experienced defender said. “He’s got a lot of potential. I think you can see the qualities that he’s got.

“I think now the next step is developing his habits in the game. But to have a player like that who’s got no fear, that has the confidence to try things in games, who doesn’t get affected if he loses the ball, I think he’s got a bright future ahead of him.”

There were always likely to be a few bumps along the way, but that is simply part of the process for a teenager adapting to senior football.

Michael Carrick does not have the deepest squad at his disposal, and that could work in favour of the next highly rated talent coming through the Carrington production line.

The Liverpool youngster made six Premier League appearances last season and remained on the fringes of Arne Slot’s 2024-25 title-winning squad.

Liverpool have known for three years that they have a gem on their hands, but he has continued to develop steadily through the club’s youth system.

Every summer, one gifted academy player tends to step up in pre-season and strengthen his case for more first-team involvement. This year, that player might well be Nyoni, who has looked one of the Reds’ standout performers while Andoni Iraola works on getting them comfortable in a new style.

The 19-year-old midfielder appears tailor-made for the intensity and energy of Iraolaball, and it will be fascinating to see how he handles matters once the competitive fixtures begin.

Honestly, it is hard to predict what comes next at Chelsea.

They have a huge group of players on their books, and it will not be easy for Xabi Alonso to keep those on the fringes satisfied with regular chances in the absence of European football.

A Conference League campaign might have been useful for prospects such as Satpaev, who may otherwise have to settle for brief appearances in the domestic cups if he is not sent out on loan.

Even so, the 17-year-old attacker clearly has the talent to make an impact, having already been described as a player with the potential to become Kazakhstan’s greatest-ever footballer.

He has already caught the eye of his new manager after scoring the first goal of the Alonso era in a pre-season friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers.

“I knew Dastan from last year, from Almaty, and you see that he is a different player,” Alonso told reporters.

“He is a goal threat, he attacks very well this inner channel, close to the striker, coming from outside. For him it is coming from Almaty, from his first experience in the club, he has been good.”

After overpowering elite centre-back Willian Pacho on his competitive Aston Villa debut, there is real excitement about what he could produce this season.
