New Delhi: The Central Government has taken a big step regarding the much-awaited Census of India 2027. The Home Ministry and the Registrar General Office have issued an official gazette notification making public the complete list of 40 questions that the census officer will ask to every citizen of the country.
In exercise of the powers under sub-section (1) of Section 8 of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948), the Government has given clear instructions that the appointed census officers will go door-to-door in their respective local areas and collect this information through 'Household Schedule'.
Let us know what important information will be recorded about you and your family during the upcoming national census.
Questions to personal identity, family and social background
The census will start with the personal and family identification of each citizen. In this you will be asked the name of the person, their relation to the head of the family, gender, date of birth and age recorded in full years. Along with this, your current marital status, age at the time of marriage and name of your spouse will be recorded.
To understand the social and family background, declared nationality, religion, full details of parents and clear information of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) or caste will be sought. Apart from this, if any person in the family has any physical or mental disability, his/her details are also included in this list.
Scope of language, education and digital literacy
To know the status of education and languages in the country, information about your mother tongue and other known languages will be recorded. Along with this, along with the level of literacy, this time your 'digital literacy' status will also be asked. Questions to your attendance at the educational institution, the highest level you have achieved in your studies and the stream or subject of your education are included in the list.
Information about business, employment and economic activities
A number of detailed questions have been designed to measure economic status and employment patterns. The officer will ask if you have ever worked in the past year, what is your category of economic activity, what is your main occupation and what type of industry, trade or service you are engaged in.
Along with this, information will also be collected regarding class of worker, non-economic activity (such as marginal, semi-marginal and non-workers) and search or availability of work. The question of how you travel to and from your place of work in everyday life is also a part of the employment section.
Special statistics to place of birth, migration and women
To understand demographic changes, your place of birth, last place of residence, main reason for migration and length of stay in that new village or city will be recorded. Your permanent residential address will also be entered in the form.
Additionally, only women who are currently married, widowed, divorced or separated will be asked about the number of children currently alive and the total number of children born alive so far. At the same time, the question of the number of children born alive in the last one year will be applicable only to currently married women.
Important details to documents, digital data and bank accounts
Some modern and important questions have also been included in this census. In this you will be asked where you got the Covid-19 vaccination done. Apart from this, information will be taken about the total number of bank accounts you have, mobile number (if available), Aadhaar number (if available), Voter ID number (if available) and availability of driving license. If you are an Indian passport holder, the passport number will also be entered.
When and where will the entire census process start?
Census work will be conducted across the country in two different phases. First of all, it is being started from difficult and inaccessible areas with snowfall.
According to the government gazette notification, the counting of people in the snowfall areas of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be conducted between September 1 and September 30.
