MG Motor India last month officially unveiled its all-new ADAPT platform for India. Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology (ADAPT) is India’s first multi-NEV (New Energy Vehicle) platform, which means the same architecture can support plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), range-extender EVs (REEVs), pure EVs, and strong-hybrid vehicles. One of the first models to use this platform is the Wuling Starlight 560-based Hector Hawk. MG has now released an official teaser image of the upcoming Hector Hawk SUV, which is likely to be launched as an EV first.

The teaser released by MG shows a brand-new SUV ready to be unveiled soon. The official launch of the Hector Hawk EV is expected to happen on August 26. The silhouette of the upcoming SUV is visible in the picture, and it looks like the SUV will get an illuminated MG logo at the front, like most EVs from the brand.

The front grille looks closed, and that is one of the biggest hints that this is an EV. The Hector Hawk electric SUV will be based on this new platform, and the exterior design of the SUV will be similar to the international version. The SUV will get a boxy design, and at the front, we expect to see rectangular LED headlamps with two LED DRLs positioned at the top and bottom of the headlamps. The EV will get thick black cladding that will act as the grille or nose. The MG logo will be placed in the centre of the nose. The charging port is probably hidden behind the logo, like on most MG EVs.

The bumper will get a very clean look, with thick cladding on the lower part along with a faux skid plate. Coming to the side profile, we expect to see thick black cladding around the wheel arches, along with dual-tone machine-cut alloy wheels.

At the rear, we expect to see a clear-lens all-LED tail lamp setup with a boxy-looking tailgate. The Hector Hawk EV is expected to be offered in 5- and 7-seat configurations. The SUV will be MG’s first 7-seater EV in the affordable or mass-market segment in India.

Like most MG models in India, the Hector Hawk will be offered with a clean and minimalist-looking cabin with a decent number of features. It is likely to be offered with features such as a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, a wireless phone charger, cruise control, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, and more. It may also get level 2 ADAS features.

Coming to the powertrain, MG is likely to offer the EV with a 69.2 kWh battery pack powering the front wheels. The SUV is expected to generate around 201 bhp and 310 Nm of peak torque. It is expected to offer a driving range of around 530 km. the Hector Hawk is likely to be priced competitively to rival with the likes of Mahindra XEV 9S in the segment.

As mentioned above, ADAPT is a multi-NEV platform, and that allows MG to cater to the needs of different types of buyers without making extensive changes to the underlying platform. This means MG will also be bringing a PHEV version of the Hector to our market.

The launch of the Hector Hawk PHEV is expected to happen soon after the EV. The PHEV version will use a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a 20.5 kWh battery pack. This setup is expected to produce a combined output of 195 bhp and 230 Nm of torque, while offering a pure-electric driving range of 125 km.
