For well over a decade, the skilled team at Singer Vehicle Design has been creating some of the world’s most impressive restomodded—or, as the company prefers to say, reimagined—Porsche 911s. Unlike many Porsche specialists, Singer stays closely aligned to the formula that made it successful: it works only with 964-generation cars, and steers clear of the gaudy excess and exaggerated styling seen in far too many custom builds. That refined approach has earned the firm a strong following in the luxury space—and made it a natural fit for Louis Vuitton. As it turns out, the partnership began with a clock.

At first glance, the idea of a Louis Vuitton timepiece sitting in a car dashboard may sound slightly unexpected, considering the French fashion house is best known for leather goods and ultra-premium luggage. Even so, Louis Vuitton has been involved in the watch business for decades.

“This unique and remarkable adventure began with a request for a dashboard clock for a car reimagined by Singer,” Louis Vuitton watch director Jean Arnault said while announcing the new cars. But, he added, “it quickly became apparent to us that this collaboration with Singer could extend to the personalization of every functional element of the vehicle.”

As the images make clear, Singer and Louis Vuitton enjoyed the collaboration so much that they did not stop at a single car; they built two. The first is a saffron-coloured coupe with a carbon-fibre body, cobalt blue accents, and a charming vintage-style roof rack to complement its 4.0-litre flat-six. Since Louis Vuitton is renowned for leather, it is hardly surprising that premium hide covers a remarkable amount of the interior in both cars, using the same type of leather found on the handles of the brand’s bags. Finely crafted metal switchgear is scattered throughout, all intended to recreate the sensation of handling a fine watch whenever your fingers reach for a control.

The clock itself also deserves special attention. It is a mechanical timepiece fitted into the far-right position of the 911’s classic set of five dials, next to the speedometer. It can also be removed, both in case the owner wants to display it at home and, of course, to wind it because it is mechanical. The remaining gauges have been redesigned as well to match the style of the clock, giving the instrument panel a more expressive look than that of a typical Porsche.

The second car, a white Turbo, is even more exotic. This carbon-fibre-bodied convertible uses wood extensively along with leather, both inside and outside, with the trim on the whale tail spoiler being a particularly striking touch. It also features a classic motorboat-inspired wooden deck and a bespoke luggage compartment behind the seats. The soft top follows the same nautical inspiration to carry the theme through. In this car, the Louis Vuitton clock is placed in the centre of the dashboard, mounted low near the gear lever.

Naturally, each car is accompanied by its own bespoke Louis Vuitton capsule collection. Naturally, the price has not been made public. And naturally, both cars are set to appear in California during Monterey Car Week.
