The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe was first revealed in May and quickly emerged as one of the more debated cars of 2026. With close to 1200 horsepower in its most extreme form, along with some styling decisions that are far from conventional, this electric sedan presents a very radical interpretation of the segment. Even though the GT63 and GT55 variants are still some time away from reaching dealerships, AMG has already widened the range. Enter the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT53 4-Door Coupe.

Like the GT63 and GT55, the AMG GT53 4-Door Coupe is a fully electric showcase of Mercedes’s performance engineering. Its powertrain is built around two permanently excited synchronous electric motors, which together deliver AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive. Mercedes says this configuration produces 536 peak horsepower, while continuous output stands at 362 hp. Peak torque is rated at 590 lb-ft. For context, the flagship version develops an outrageous 1153 hp and 1,475 lb-ft from three axial-flux motors. The GT53 can dispatch the 0-60-mph run in just 3.4 seconds with a standard 1-ft rollout, while top speed is electronically capped at 143 mph.

The full powertrain is backed by a 106-kWH battery pack, which AMG says should give the 4-Door Coupe nearly 500 miles of range on the WLTP test cycle. That figure will likely come down somewhat once the car is tested under the U.S.-specific cycle. The setup uses an 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling charging speeds of 600 kW. In practical terms, that means it should be possible to add about 300 miles of range in as little as 10 minutes when connected to a sufficiently powerful DC fast charger.

“With the new GT 4-Door, we have truly made a statement,” said Dr Stefan Weckbach, chairman of the management board of Mercedes-AMG. “A highly dynamic vehicle that impresses in every single aspect. Now, we are expanding the family with a very attractive entry model at an equally attractive price. It combines the commanding power of the drivetrain with the emotional sharpness that distinguishes Mercedes-AMG: precise, intense and fascinating.”

Other notable features include an adaptive air suspension system designed to deliver both comfort-focused cruising and high-performance ability. Mercedes has also equipped the car with simulated gear shifts operated through paddles, along with an “authentically reproduced” combustion-engine sound inspired by the C238-generation Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe. By comparison, the range-topping model gets a V-8-inspired soundtrack.

Whether the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe range truly needed another variant is open to debate, but offering a version with less than four-digit torque is probably a sensible move. Even so, it will be interesting to see how this dual-motor setup stacks up against the models sitting at the top of the line-up.
