PV Sindhu has been seeded ninth in the women’s singles event at the 2026 BWF World Championships in Delhi, while the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty has been seeded fifth in the men’s doubles. The BWF World Championships will be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi from August 17-23. This is India’s second time hosting the Badminton World Championships. Previously, this prestigious championship was held in Hyderabad in 2009.

Double Olympic medalist Sindhu recently won the Japan Open. She won the World Championship title in 2019 and also won silver in 2017 and 2018. Sindhu won her first World Championship medal in 2013, winning bronze that year. She also won bronze in 2014. The Satwik-Chirag pair has already won bronze in 2022 and 2025.

Lakshya Sen seeded 14th

India has two entries in all five categories at the World Championships, and at least one seeded entry in four of the five categories. In addition to Sindhu and Satwik-Chirag, former World Championship bronze medalist Lakshya Sen is seeded 14th in the men’s singles. The mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto are seeded 15th.

Notably, all players qualified for the championships based on their world rankings as of April 28, 2026, but seedings have been decided based on the world rankings as of July 28, 2026.

Top seeds in singles:

China’s men’s singles world champion Shi Yuqi and South Korea’s women’s singles star An Se Young have been seeded top in their respective categories. Japan’s women’s singles world champion Akane Yamaguchi has been seeded second, while China’s Wang Ziyi and Chen Yufei have been seeded third and fourth. The draw for the championship will take place in New Delhi on Wednesday, and seedings may change if any seeded players withdraw before then.
