Story of Sankashti Chaturthi
There’s a mythological story behind Lord Ganesha’s reputation as the remover of troubles. Once, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were playing a game of Chaupar in the forest. They were alone. So, Goddess Parvati decided that a third person was needed to decide victory and defeat. So, she created a clay idol of a child and breathed life into it. The child acted as the referee in the game of Chaupar.
He once mistakenly declared Goddess Parvati a loser. Enraged, Goddess Parvati cursed him, leaving him lame. When the boy apologized, Goddess Parvati said, “A curse cannot be taken back, but praying to Lord Ganesha will surely alleviate your troubles.” Since then, it’s believed that praying to Lord Ganesha alleviates physical and mental troubles.
