Former India batter Ajinkya Rahane has announced his retirement from cricket, calling time on a career that saw him compete at the elite level for more than ten years. Though retired, Rahane has also declared his intention to remain involved in the sport by coaching young players.
Besides retiring with a remarkable international career, Rahane is also qualified for a post-retirement welfare scheme of the BCCI. The Mumbai batsman is entitled to the best pension slab granted by the leading body, for his extensive experience playing for India.
How Much Pension Will Ainkya Rahane Receive?
Cricketers who have played 25 or more Test matches for India are eligible for the top pension category under the present BCCI pension scheme.
When played 85 Tests (also played 90 one-day games and 20 T20Is), Rahane easily fulfils that qualification. A post-retirement monthly pension of 70,000 from BCCI is available for him for life.
The pension scheme is assisted by the welfare activities of BCCI (including Platinum Jubilee Corpus Fund and other welfare funds). Earnings from IPL playoff matches are also used to ensure continual financial support towards retired cricketers.

BCCI and MCA Pension Rules
Rahane played a significant part of his domestic career for Mumbai in the past and hence qualifies under the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
The BCCI rules specify that a retired player cannot receive pensions from both the BCCI and a state association simultaneously. He has to opt for either of the two schemes. Generally speaking, the BCCI scheme has a better package.
Another provision provides that if, in the future, Rahane takes official paid employment with the BCCI, as a coach or administrator, his pension will be frozen in the meantime. Once he leaves the job, the pension will be restarted. Private coaching, TV commentary and media work do not impact the pension.
Medical Insurance and Other Benefits
Rahane would also be covered for healthcare through the Indian Cricketers' Association (ICA). As per the current policy, he would be eligible to obtain several lakhs worth of yearly medical care.
His wife and unmarried children below 25 years of age are also included in the insurance. Another financial assistance is available through the BCCI's Medical Benevolent Fund for serious medical reasons.
Having a decent international career to his name and a solid support system in place post-retirement, Rahane is set to focus on his third chapter in cricket and still be committed to Indian cricket outside the field.
