PM Kisan Scheme Extension: The Modi government has brought great news for crores of farmers across the country. The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana) scheme for the next five years. This means that from the financial year 2026-27 through 2030-31, eligible farmers will continue to receive financial assistance of ₹6,000 annually, just as before. Consequently, the biggest question on farmers' minds now is when the ₹2,000 installment for the 24th tranche will be credited to their accounts.

PM Kisan Scheme to Continue Until 2031
The Central Government has decided to extend the PM Kisan Scheme (PM-KISAN Scheme) for another five years. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that a budget of ₹3.15 lakh crore has been approved for this scheme. The government states that this decision will assist farmers in meeting essential agricultural expenses. Additionally, the scheme will play a crucial role in boosting their income and strengthening the rural economy.

₹6,000 Provided Annually; How the Money Reaches Accounts
Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, eligible farming families receive financial assistance of ₹6,000 per year. This amount is not disbursed as a lump sum but in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each. The funds are transferred directly to the farmers' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

According to the government, this amount is released keeping the crop cycle in mind, ensuring that farmers receive financial support during critical times such as sowing, and for the procurement of fertilizers, seeds, irrigation, and other essential farming activities.

₹4.47 Lakh Crore Transferred Across 23 Installments So Far
According to the government, a total exceeding ₹4.47 lakh crore has been directly transferred to farmers' bank accounts across 23 installments under the PM Kisan Scheme to date. Under the 23rd installment alone, an amount exceeding ₹18,984 crore was disbursed to more than 9.49 crore farmers. Additionally, assistance amounting to over ₹1.71 lakh crore was provided to farmers through this scheme to offer relief during the COVID-19 pandemic.

**Significant benefits for women farmers too**
A large number of women farmers have also benefited from the PM Kisan scheme. So far, more than ₹1.06 lakh crore has been transferred to the accounts of female beneficiaries. According to the government, approximately one out of every four beneficiaries of the scheme is a woman farmer.

**How ​​have farmers benefited from the PM Kisan scheme?**
The government states that the scheme ensures farmers receive funds for farming activities on time. This enables them to timely cover expenses related to seeds, fertilizers, irrigation, agricultural equipment, and other necessities.

According to an assessment by NITI Aayog’s Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO), over 92 percent of farmers reported using these funds for farming and agricultural investments. Meanwhile, around 85 percent of farmers acknowledged an improvement in their agricultural income and noted a reduced reliance on moneylenders or informal loans compared to the past.

**When will the ₹2,000 for the 24th installment of PM Kisan be released?**
Currently, the main topic of discussion is when the 24th installment of the PM Kisan scheme will be released. The government has not yet announced an official date for it. However, based on the pattern of previous installments, it is anticipated that the 24th installment could be released in October 2026. If the four-month interval pattern continues, the ₹2,000 could be transferred to the accounts of eligible farmers during October. However, the final date will only be confirmed following an official announcement by the government.
