New Delhi: The President has approved a significant bill aimed at establishing fast-track courts across all states to expedite trials related to examination paper leaks and to impose stricter penalties on offenders.
In a notification released on Friday, the law ministry confirmed that President Droupadi Murmu has sanctioned the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, following its passage through both Houses of Parliament earlier this week.
Under this new legislation, investigations into paper leak incidents must be concluded within a two-month timeframe.
The law stipulates that those found guilty of involvement in paper leaks or other unfair practices during examinations will face imprisonment ranging from a minimum of five years to a maximum of ten years, along with fines that could reach up to Rs 50 lakh.
For cases classified as organized crime, the revised law mandates a minimum prison sentence of seven years and fines that can go up to Rs 10 crore.
