Known for her acting chops, unique film choices, and outspoken opinions, Taapsee’s film journey hasn’t been easy. She was originally a software engineer, but her dream of acting led her to the film industry. She faced many difficulties, controversies, and criticism along the way, but through her hard work, she carved a niche for herself in the industry.

From engineering to acting

Taapsee Pannu was born on August 1, 1987, in New Delhi, to a Sikh family. A consistent academic, Taapsee earned a Computer Science Engineering degree from the Guru Teg Bahadur Institute of Technology. After completing her degree, she worked as an engineer at a software company. However, she always yearned for something different, so she left her job and entered the world of modeling. This decision paved the way for her film career.

From modeling to the film industry

In 2008, Taapsee participated in the talent hunt show “Get Gorgeous,” which led to several modeling opportunities and commercials. In 2010, she made her acting debut with the Telugu film “Jhummandi Naadam.” Three years later, Taapsee entered Bollywood.

Taapsee made her Hindi cinema debut in 2013 with David Dhawan’s film “Chashme Baddoor.” However, she gained recognition with films like “Pink,” “Mulk,” “Manmarziyaan,” “Badla,” “Thappad,” “Haseen Dilruba,” and “Rashmi Rocket.” Her performances in these films were praised by audiences and critics. Gradually, Taapsee became a popular actress for content-driven films.

a bitter experience

In an interview, Taapsee shared a harrowing experience from her career. She revealed that she was dropped from a film because the lead actor’s wife didn’t want her to be a part of the project. Taapsee never named the actor or his wife, but said the incident taught her a lot and encouraged her to move forward.

Controversy with Kangana Ranaut

Taapsee Pannu’s name also figured in the controversy surrounding actress Kangana Ranaut. In 2019, Kangana’s sister Rangoli Chandel called Taapsee a “cheap copy of Kangana.” This led to a verbal spat between the two. Taapsee responded to this comment calmly, saying, “Kangana will always be the queen, otherwise I’ll be called a copy again.”

In 2021, Taapsee Pannu’s home was raided by the Income Tax Department, after which she issued a clarification on social media, denying the allegations. Kangana also targeted her in this matter, leading to a renewed war of words between the two. Taapsee stated that she doesn’t earn as much as Kangana, so she doesn’t mind people calling her “cheap.” Over time, the dispute between the two gradually subsided.
