Arsenal and Newcastle United have reached an agreement in principle worth €90m for the transfer of Brazil international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes (28), according to a report on Friday from L’Equipe. The 28-year-old has already agreed personal terms with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners on a five-year contract. The Premier League champions had initially been discouraged by Newcastle’s €100m valuation of the player, but Arsenal and the Magpies have now found a middle ground.
Arsenal’s €90m offer, lodged on Friday, has prompted Newcastle to soften their stance. Some details still have to be finalised regarding add-ons and agents’ fees, but Bruno Guimaraes now appears to be closing in on a move to the Emirates Stadium. L’Equipe adds that Lyon are set to receive €8m from the Brazilian’s transfer, as they negotiated a 20% sell-on clause when they agreed to let Guimaraes leave six years ago in a €50m deal.
