Max Eberl made it clear that FC Bayern will not go back into the market for more signings this summer. The Rekordmeister have already spent a little over €100 million on the arrivals of Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown, while Bara Sapoko Ndiaye will now join them on a permanent basis.

“I had a smile every time I read transfer rumours this summer. We completed the transfers of Nene Brown and Ismael Saibari very quickly. I thought it was obvious that we were finished with incomings. I had to smile at the names being linked with us. There is 0% truth in these rumours,” the sporting director said at the press conference held for Brown’s unveiling.

“Nene (Brown) comes from Amberg, Bavaria. By the latest at the World Cup, we saw what he is capable of. He developed very well at Frankfurt and has a very high level of game intelligence. The future belongs to him. When the chance came, we had to take it. He is incredibly versatile.” Eberl explained the thinking behind the €50 million signing of the left-back.

Even so, Eberl ruled out a summer exit for Alphonso Davies. The Canadian made only one appearance in his country’s fairytale run at the World Cup, and his fitness problems had led to rumours that FC Bayern were preparing to replace him with the Germany international.

“I can rule out a move for Alphonso Davies,” said the 52-year-old. “Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić have covered at left-back. With Luis Díaz, Arijon Ibrahimović, Nene (Brown) and Davies, we are very well covered on the left wing.”

Eberl also confirmed earlier reports that FC Bayern had changed their mind after initially planning to sign a left winger. “We originally wanted to do something on the left side of the attack, but we have not done that. We have become more flexible with Ismael Saibari and Brown.”

There were also questions about rumours of Real Madrid’s interest in Michael Olise. “We stayed in touch with Michael throughout the World Cup,” Eberl said before closing the door on any separation.

“We asked him whether he wanted to wear number 11, as he does for the national team. But he wanted to keep number 17. The speculation kept going around, but there is nothing in it. He will be back as usual after his holiday. And we are simply happy to have such a player.”

Meanwhile, Eberl once again added João Palhinha’s name to the list of possible outgoing transfers. Eberl and the Portuguese midfielder gave contrasting interviews after FC Bayern’s defeat to Wehen Wiesbaden in their first pre-season fixture.

“We have three players whom we are open to letting go. They have no future at Bayern. If they want to stay with us, it will be difficult because we are not planning with them and they will not play a role. That is the case with Sacha Boey, João Palhinha and Bryan Zaragoza.” Eberl concluded.
