The Indian team for the Test series in Sri Lanka has been announced. Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudarshan have been included in the team. But his availability is dependent on the approval of the BCCI committee. Off-spinner and all-rounder Saransh Jain has also been included in the squad. After stellar performances in domestic cricket, Saransh Jain has finally cemented his place in the Test team. In 85 innings of 54 matches, he has scored 2223 runs at an average of 31.76, which includes two centuries and 14 half-centuries. In bowling, he has taken 188 wickets at an average of 27.31, including 10 performances of five or more wickets in an innings.

Domestic cricket performance attracted attention

Born on March 31, 1993 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Saransh Jain has performed very well in his two recent domestic seasons. In the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy, Saransh took 30 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 2.64 in just seven matches for Madhya Pradesh. Last season, he took 35 wickets in eight matches. Saransh also shone in the 2025 Duleep Trophy. Playing for Central Zone, he took five wickets in the final against South Zone. He also took six wickets against Rest of India in the Irani Trophy.

Learning cricket from father, a note became inspiration

Behind Saransh’s success is the full support of his family. While he was on the Australia tour with the Madhya Pradesh team, his father was diagnosed with oral cancer. The family hid this from Saransh. He wanted Saransh to concentrate only on his cricket. During treatment, his father was unable to speak. So, he wrote on a note, “Just focus on your game, I will be fine soon.” This message is still the biggest inspiration for Saransh. In an interview, Jain narrated this incident, which shows how much his family has supported him throughout his sports career. Zain’s father had given her a note that read, “Baby, I’m fine now. If you play nice, I’ll be fine soon.”

Saranghe likely to be part of coach Gambhir’s strategy

The Indian team was looking for an off-spinner for a long time and finally Saranghe has been selected. Saranghe could be a valuable off-spinner for India. India have a lot of leg-spinners, but they lack a true off-spinner. After Harbhajan Singh, there has been no off-spinner who has played for India for a long period. Now it remains to be seen whether Saranghe can live up to the expectations of the team or not. Saranghe can also show his batting skills. Therefore, Saranghe is a good option for Gambhir’s strategy.
