Manchester City have identified Chelsea winger Pedro Neto as one of a number of attacking options under consideration this summer, although no formal move has been made for the Portugal international.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Neto is on City’s shortlist as the club evaluates possible reinforcements on the flanks.

The report also says Chelsea are aware of the increasing interest in the 26-year-old, but they are not actively trying to sell one of their senior forwards.

Chelsea’s position is said to be influenced by the current transfer market, where the fees linked with top-level wingers have climbed sharply.

Paris Saint-Germain are said to value Bradley Barcola at more than £100 million, while RB Leipzig have put a similarly high valuation on Yan Diomande.

Although the Blues do not think Neto would fetch a fee of that level, those deals are expected to shape any talks if interest continues to grow.

Liverpool, clubs in the Saudi Pro League and Manchester City have all been linked with the Portuguese winger in recent weeks.

Chelsea, though, have still not set a public asking price for Neto and are under no pressure to approve a sale in the current transfer window.

City’s interest is also tied to head coach Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with Neto during his time at Stamford Bridge and often used him on the right wing.

A reunion could be attractive if City decide to strengthen that area before the new season, although the club is understood to be looking at several targets rather than concentrating only on the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player.

Neto joined Chelsea from Wolves last summer and continues to be an important part of the squad.

Club sources feel the interest around him reflects the shortage of proven wide players currently available in the market rather than any wish to move him on.

At the moment, City’s interest seems to be at an early exploratory stage. Chelsea have not asked for bids, there have been no reported club-to-club talks, and any possible transfer would probably need a sizeable fee before negotiations could pick up pace.
