The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Friday that the New Delhi Metro Station will remain closed until further notice, with no interchange facilities available at this location. The reason for this closure has not been disclosed by the metro operator. This decision follows the DMRC's earlier action of shutting down 17 metro stations in the national capital starting from 7:30 AM, amid heightened security measures. Stations such as Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat had their entry and exit points closed, although interchange services at these critical junctions continued to operate.
Impact of Recent Protests
On Thursday, the affected stations included Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Tirth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, and Jhandewalan, with Jhandewalan being added later in the day. These restrictions were implemented during protests by the 'Cockroach People’s Party' (CJP) regarding an alleged NEET paper leak. Demonstrators gathered at Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Internet Services Disrupted
The CJP claimed that internet services around Jantar Mantar were suspended, alleging that this was a preparatory action by the police. In a post on X, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke questioned the internet shutdown and urged police and paramilitary forces not to use force against the protesters.
