Chelsea and Manchester United are both considering a move for Fenerbahçe’s defender Archie Brown as they continue their search for left-back reinforcements. The 24-year-old Englishman has drawn significant attention after an outstanding debut season in Turkey, where his speed, power, and attacking intent made him one of the most dynamic full-backs in the league.

Reports suggest that Chelsea believe Brown could fit seamlessly into Xabi Alonso’s tactical setup, particularly because of his ability to function effectively as either an attacking full-back or a wing-back.

Manchester United, meanwhile, view Brown as a more economical alternative to Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, who remains a challenging target to secure.

At present, neither Premier League side has made an official bid. Fenerbahçe are not keen to part ways with the player, meaning both Chelsea and United would likely need to propose a compelling financial offer to persuade the Turkish club.

According to TEAMtalk, intermediaries have reached out to both Chelsea and Manchester United to gauge whether they intend to pursue Brown during this summer’s transfer window.

Chelsea have been monitoring the English defender for quite some time and believe his athletic profile, attacking contribution, and adaptability would align well with Alonso’s system.

The need for a new left-back at Stamford Bridge has grown following Marc Cucurella’s exit, while negotiations for other potential signings have stalled.

Manchester United have also tracked Brown since his transfer from Gent to Fenerbahçe and have continued to follow his progress closely.

Although Lewis Hall remains their top choice, Newcastle’s unwillingness to engage in talks has compelled United to explore more cost-effective alternatives.

However, both Premier League clubs face a challenge as Fenerbahçe consider Brown integral to their plans and have already dismissed previous interest from Nottingham Forest.

When Brown joined Fenerbahçe in July 2025, the club announced he had signed a three-year deal with the option for an additional season, giving them strong leverage in any transfer negotiations.

From Chelsea’s perspective, Brown’s energy and width down the left flank could perfectly complement Alonso’s tactical demands for advanced full-backs.

For Manchester United, his physical presence and defensive strength would provide healthy competition for Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu.

Given his age and potential, Brown would represent a pragmatic signing for either club, especially if his valuation remains significantly below that of Hall’s.

Nevertheless, labelling him as a ‘budget option’ could be misleading, since Fenerbahçe have little motivation to sell one of their key players.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United are expected to test Fenerbahçe’s stance, but neither club should engage in an unnecessary bidding war.

Brown’s potential is clear, yet the eventual outcome will depend entirely on whether Fenerbahçe decide to relax their firm position on the matter.
