What happens if a commercial cylinder is used at home?
Commercial LPG cylinders are primarily intended for use in hotels, restaurants, *dhabas*, cafes, and other commercial establishments. In contrast, the 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder is meant solely for household cooking. Consequently, using a commercial cylinder in your kitchen instead of a domestic one is considered a violation of the rules and could lead to action being taken against you.
What action can be taken for violating the rules?
If a commercial cylinder is found in a home kitchen, it may be confiscated.
Your gas connection could be cancelled.
A monetary fine may be imposed if you are found guilty.
Legal action may also be initiated under the Essential Commodities Act and LPG supply regulations.
How much could the fine be?
A fine of up to ₹50,000 may be imposed for violating the rules.
An FIR (First Information Report) may be registered in cases of serious or repeated violations. Such cases carry a provision for imprisonment of up to seven years.
Additionally, if a gas agency knowingly facilitates the misuse of a domestic cylinder, a fine ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹10 lakh may be imposed on it.

Fill out the application form for a commercial LPG connection.
Submit the required documents and pay the prescribed security deposit.
Once the process is complete, the gas consumer card and connection are issued.
