Manchester United are reportedly among the leading contenders to secure the signature of Bournemouth’s rising star Alex Scott, who has turned down a fresh contract proposal from the Premier League club.

The Red Devils are in the midst of restructuring their midfield this summer, having already completed the signings of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. Following Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s injury, Manchester United are eager to bring in another midfielder before the transfer window closes.

Michael Carrick’s team have been linked with several midfield options, and their chances of landing Scott appear to have improved. According to a report by Sky Sports on Tuesday morning, the talented youngster has declined Bournemouth’s latest contract offer.

The same report suggests that Manchester United are one of three frontrunners to sign Scott, with Chelsea and Arsenal also in the race. However, Bournemouth are determined to retain the player.

The report states: “United, Chelsea and Arsenal are regarded as the leading contenders for Scott, who joined the England squad travelling to the United States ahead of the World Cup. Other clubs have also shown interest. Bournemouth expect Scott to remain at the club next season, whether he accepts a new deal or continues under his current contract.”

Transfer insider Indykaila, who claims to have a ‘team of five elite reporters,’ added that Manchester United are currently the only club engaged in serious negotiations to sign Scott. The insider said that Scott is ready to make a major move away from Bournemouth to test himself on the Champions League stage.

They added: “This is a player who understands his value and is eager to prove himself globally. At this moment, Manchester United are the only club in advanced discussions with Bournemouth regarding a transfer fee. However, they must move swiftly as other teams are monitoring the situation closely. Scott’s ambition is evident—he wants to perform at the highest level.”

Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs noted that Bournemouth still have no intention of selling Scott, although he acknowledged that interest in the midfielder continues to grow.

Jacobs explained: “Alex Scott has rejected a new contract from Bournemouth after further talks with the club. Bournemouth remain unwilling to sell and value the player at £80 million. The Cherries made their first renewal offer in March, and discussions have been ongoing since then. Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City all enquired about Scott this summer but were told he is not for sale. Chelsea also hold an appreciation for him. Scott’s current deal runs until the summer of 2028, and Bournemouth are content to keep him without an extension for now, though external interest is increasing.”
