Bournemouth Star Alex Scott Rejects New Contract as Manchester United and Arsenal Step Up Interest

Manchester United and Arsenal have reportedly been handed fresh encouragement in their pursuit of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott after the youngster turned down another contract extension offer from the Cherries. Although the 22-year-old remains under contract with Bournemouth, his latest decision does not automatically signal an imminent departure this summer.

However, having now rejected two separate proposals, Scott appears to be keeping his future options open rather than committing the prime years of his career to the south coast side.

Manchester United are currently in the market for a midfielder who can add dynamism, physical presence, and progression from deep areas, while Arsenal are seeking additional competition and depth alongside Declan Rice and Martín Zubimendi.

Both Premier League giants now have a stronger incentive to challenge Bournemouth’s resolve to retain one of their most prized assets.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Scott and his representatives have officially informed Bournemouth that they will reject the club’s second contract proposal.

Bournemouth remain keen to keep the player and are reportedly open to including a release clause in any new contract as a compromise to convince him to stay.

Despite these efforts, no agreement has been reached so far, with several top-flight clubs continuing to monitor the midfielder’s situation closely.

The Cherries are not under immediate financial strain and can still rely on his existing contract when negotiating any potential transfer fee.

Even so, failing to secure a new deal could weaken their long-term position, as Scott’s market value may begin to decline as he approaches the final stages of his current agreement.

As reported by Sports Illustrated, both Manchester United and Arsenal are tracking Scott’s situation after his standout 2025/26 season, during which he emerged as one of Bournemouth’s most complete and consistent midfielders.

His contract stance is viewed as a significant boost for his suitors, suggesting that the player might now be open to a move to a bigger club.

Manchester United could offer him a central role in their midfield rebuild, along with Champions League football, while Arsenal present a chance to challenge for major honours immediately.

Scott’s qualities — including his ability to carry the ball under pressure, retain possession, and make defensive contributions — would fit seamlessly into either team’s system.

While United may have a more pressing need for reinforcement in midfield, Arsenal currently offer a more stable and structured sporting project.

Nonetheless, neither club should expect Bournemouth to part with Scott easily or at a bargain price. However, his refusal to sign an extension has opened up possibilities that were previously closed, and a strong formal bid could now test Bournemouth’s determination to retain him.
