Joey Logano secured his maiden win of the NASCAR Cup Series season on Sunday in the Window World 450 at North Wilkesboro Speedway, marking the first Cup Series triumph at the historic short track since 1996.

Logano dominated the race by leading 323 of the 450 laps on his way to victory. He also claimed the Stage Two win, his first stage victory of the year, coinciding with his first overall win of the season. Entering the weekend, the two-time series champion was below the playoff cutline as the regular season neared its conclusion, but this victory now propels him into playoff contention.

“At this stage, a win anywhere would have felt amazing,” Logano said in his post-race interview on TNT. “Coming to North Wilkesboro is incredible. I even had a little passenger with me on the backstretch—my son Hudson. The car was phenomenal today. Paul Wolfe and the entire team put together a fantastic setup. We managed to maintain a steady pace, everyone on pit road performed flawlessly, and the Roush Yates engine ran perfectly. It feels great to be back in victory lane. It’s been a tough season, so doing those big, smoky doughnuts in the Shell-Pennzoil Mustang felt amazing.”

Logano managed to fend off strong competition from Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin, Chase Briscoe, and Ty Gibbs to secure the win.

Shane van Gisbergen followed up his third-place finish in Saturday night’s NASCAR Truck Series race with another impressive performance, finishing fifth in the NASCAR Cup Series Oval race. He briefly took the lead early in the first stage and playfully asked his team what to do while leading the pack.

“What the heck do I do now?” van Gisbergen radioed to his team.

Ty Gibbs had earlier captured the Stage One win before Logano took control of the race. The event featured only three natural cautions—one in the opening stage and two in the second—which allowed Logano to extend his lead over the rest of the field. Ultimately, he crossed the finish line 0.859 seconds ahead of Hamlin, with the pair well clear of the chasing pack.

Only six cars managed to stay on the lead lap by the end of the race, with 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace finishing sixth as the final car on the lead lap. Brad Keselowski, Todd Gilliland, Daniel Suárez, and Ryan Preece rounded out the top ten finishers.
