Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Leicester City defender Ben Nelson as manager Michael Carrick aims to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the new season. The Red Devils have already been active in the transfer market, but their return to the Champions League has prompted further efforts to enhance squad depth to compete effectively across multiple competitions.

United target defensive reinforcements

Manchester United have been among the most assertive clubs during the current transfer window, spending over £80 million to sign midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. The club also brought in goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer from Leeds United. However, Carrick’s recruitment plans are ongoing, with a focus on adding a left-sided player, another midfielder, and a back-up striker to complete his roster at Old Trafford.

The urgency to bring in a new centre-back has grown due to injuries and unavailability among current defenders. Despite Leicester’s struggles, Nelson’s reputation has continued to rise across Europe. West Ham United are said to be monitoring his situation closely, while Torino and Borussia Monchengladbach have already had bids turned down for the 6ft 5in defender.
