Leeds United have reportedly been informed that an offer of £20 million would be sufficient to sign Udinese defender Oumar Solet, potentially marking their third acquisition of the summer transfer window.
The West Yorkshire club has been notably active in the market in recent weeks as they look to reinforce their squad following the successful retention of their Premier League status last season.
So far this summer, Leeds have completed two significant signings, securing Tarik Muharemovic and Harry Wilson.
Muharemovic has been brought in as a replacement for Pascal Struijk, whose contractual situation necessitated a sale. However, Leeds are still keen to add another central defender to their roster.
Reports earlier this week indicated that Udinese’s standout performer Solet remains a key target for Leeds United, who are eager to pair him with Muharemovic. According to Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke, the French centre-back could be available in what has been described as a ‘cut-price deal’.
The report suggests that if Leeds table a £20 million offer for Solet, Udinese are expected to accept the proposal, despite the player being under contract until 2027.
However, Leeds face competition for his signature, with both Inter Milan and Juventus also said to be monitoring the 24-year-old defender’s situation closely.
In addition to strengthening their defence, Leeds still need reinforcements in other areas of the squad — particularly in the goalkeeping department.
This need arises after the club sold Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow to Arsenal and Manchester United, respectively. Reports indicate that Leeds have been offered the opportunity to sign Brighton and Hove Albion’s promising goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.
The Seagulls are reportedly open to parting ways with Rushworth, though it remains uncertain whether Leeds will move forward with a formal bid for the young shot-stopper.
Leeds United specialist Graham Smyth has suggested that the club’s preferred target in goal remains Manchester City’s James Trafford, describing him as their “dream signing”.
Smyth further explained that Leeds are “waiting” to see if Trafford becomes available before exploring alternative options.
“I think they [Leeds] are waiting for Trafford,” Smyth said.
“I think Trafford’s future will be resolved now that the World Cup has concluded.
“Leeds are waiting for the right moment to position themselves competitively among other interested clubs to try and bring him in.
“It would be a dream signing if they manage to get the deal done.”
