Inter Milan are reportedly ready to match Tottenham Hotspur’s £30 million asking price for Djed Spence, as the Serie A giants look to secure the England full-back following his impressive World Cup campaign.

Inter have intensified their efforts to sign the Tottenham defender after his standout performances at the World Cup convinced manager Cristian Chivu that Spence would be an ideal fit for his tactical system. The Italian side are now considering expanding their transfer budget to fend off potential competition for the 25-year-old’s signature.

According to reports, Spence’s displays at the World Cup have solidified his status as Inter’s primary target to bolster the wing-back position. His pace, defensive awareness, and stamina have impressed the club’s scouting department, reinforcing the belief that his attributes align perfectly with Inter’s high-tempo playing style.

However, his strong showing on the international stage has also sparked concerns within the club. Inter officials fear that Spence’s rising profile could lead to an increase in his market value and draw attention from rival clubs. As a result, club president Beppe Marotta and sporting director Piero Ausilio are accelerating their efforts to finalise a deal.

It is understood that Inter initially allocated around £21 million plus performance-related bonuses for another target but are now prepared to raise their offer to meet Tottenham’s valuation, which is expected to fall between £30 million and £35 million. The Nerazzurri are keen to demonstrate their commitment by increasing their financial proposal.

Manager Cristian Chivu has reportedly given his full approval for the move, having been impressed by Spence’s adaptability. Before leaving for Germany recently, the Romanian coach held discussions with club executives to reaffirm his desire to bring the English defender to Milan. Chivu values Spence’s ability to operate effectively on both flanks, offering tactical flexibility that the current squad lacks.

While Inter continue to operate within the financial parameters set by owners Oaktree, the board appears willing to loosen its restrictions for this signing. Though negotiations are not yet at an advanced stage, Inter’s readiness to adjust their spending indicates genuine intent to make Spence a significant part of their setup for the upcoming season.

The increased investment in this position underlines Inter’s ambitions following the departure of Denzel Dumfries to Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid. Since then, the club has struggled to find a consistent replacement. Efforts to sign Marco Palestra fell through, while a potential deal for Anan Khalaili was tragically halted after medical tests revealed a heart condition that affected the Israeli international’s career trajectory.

While Inter continue to consider alternatives, Spence remains their top target. Other options on the shortlist include Nahuel Molina, Monaco’s Vanderson, and Strasbourg’s Guela Doue, who could be pursued if talks with Tottenham stall.

Formal discussions are expected to commence once the World Cup concludes, with Spence still scheduled to feature in England’s third-place play-off. Inter remain hopeful that the player is open to a move to the Giuseppe Meazza, but any deal will depend on reaching an agreement with Tottenham, who are expected to stand firm on their valuation.
