Dominik Szoboszlai has sealed a new five-year contract with Liverpool, calling it possibly the most significant day of his career as he commits his long-term future to the club.
The Hungarian midfielder, who had two years remaining on his previous agreement, will now remain at Anfield until the age of 30. He has also set his sights on lifting the Champions League trophy with the Reds before the end of his tenure.
Szoboszlai had been in discussions with Liverpool for several months, with both sides confident he would stay. However, negotiations accelerated in recent weeks, culminating in this new deal.
“It’s maybe my biggest day,” he told the club’s official website. “There are a couple ahead of it – probably when I first signed for Liverpool and when I became a father, of course. But in my football career, this is definitely in the top three. I’m extremely happy and can’t wait to keep pushing forward. I’m just delighted to be here.”
Liverpool have rewarded Szoboszlai following his superb performances last season, during which he scored 13 goals, provided 12 assists, and played in several different roles across midfield and attack.
The £60 million signing from RB Leipzig in 2023 was also a crucial figure in Liverpool’s 2024–25 Premier League title victory. Yet Szoboszlai believes his peak years are still to come.
“There’s always more to come. I’m never fully satisfied,” he said. “I’m happy with what I’ve achieved, but I always feel I can push myself even further. That’s been my mindset since childhood – it’s never enough. That same attitude drives me today.”
He continued, “I want to set an example for others as much as I can. When I first joined, I said I wanted to win everything, and that ambition hasn’t changed one bit. I want to win every trophy possible in this country, and of course, the Champions League. I’m ready to give everything for that.”
Alongside Szoboszlai’s renewal, Liverpool have strengthened their squad this summer with the addition of winger Victor Munoz. Defender Jeremy Jacquet, whose transfer from Rennes was finalised in January, has also joined up with new head coach Andoni Iraola as the club prepares for the upcoming campaign.
