The JPC headed by BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi has postponed its draft report on three important bills related to Jammu and Kashmir. The committee said further consultation with stakeholders is needed before finalizing the recommendations.
New Delhi [भारत]July 17 (ANI): The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), headed by BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, on Friday postponed the decision to adopt its draft report on three key legislations related to Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory. The committee said further deliberations and consultation with stakeholders are needed before finalizing its recommendations.
In the meeting held at the Parliament House Annexe, the committee reviewed the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Union Territory Government (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
During the meeting, Home Ministry officials briefed the members about the proposed amendments, after which the panel discussed its draft report.
'Further discussion is needed'
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sarangi said the committee has decided not to adopt the draft report at this stage.
"The draft report was not adopted in the meeting today. We will hold further discussions," he said.
Explaining the decision, Sarangi said the committee unanimously felt that more consultation was needed before submitting its report.
"Five recommendations were placed before all of us. But when we started discussing the recommendations, the entire Joint Parliamentary Committee unanimously felt that we need more deliberations and consultation with more stakeholders," he said.
Timeline of committee work
Sarangi also told the time limit of the committee's work. He said the joint committee was constituted on August 20, 2025, the day the Union Home Minister introduced the bills in the Lok Sabha.
The committee was notified on November 12, 2025 and its first meeting was held on December 2, 2025.
He further said that the committee will continue consultations with stakeholders before finalizing its report on the three bills.
Meanwhile, Aparajita Sarangi also serves as the chairperson of the defense sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which is examining the defence-related reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). (ANI)
