Lionel Messi orchestrated a classic comeback as Argentina defeated England 2-1 in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final on Thursday, booking a place in their second successive final.
England appeared on course for a historic win after Anthony Gordon’s second-half strike gave them the lead, with coach Thomas Tuchel’s tactics effectively containing Messi for much of the game. However, Argentina once again showed their champion pedigree, turning the contest around in dramatic fashion.
