The construction work of the alternative Bailey bridge being built in place of the damaged bridge on Singla river in Anipur in Shribhoomi district of Assam has not been completed even after four months. There is immense anger and dissatisfaction among thousands of people living on both banks of the river due to the slow pace of construction work.
According to local people, after the bridge was damaged, State Cabinet Minister Krishnendu Pal visited the spot and assured to prepare an alternative bailey bridge within a month. But even after four months, the construction work is incomplete, due to which questions are being raised on the minister’s assurance.
Due to Bailey Bridge not being ready on time, school and college students, working people, businessmen and common citizens have to cross the river daily, risking their lives. This is directly impacting education, business and essential services. Local people say that if the construction work is not completed soon, they will be forced to start a massive mass movement.
Here, the important road passing in front of Sabu of Anipur is also in a bad condition for a long time. Many parts of the road have been damaged and big potholes have formed at many places. During the rainy season, transportation becomes extremely difficult due to waterlogging and mud on the roads, due to which people are facing a lot of problems every day.
Local residents allege that despite informing the concerned department and public representatives about this problem several times, no concrete steps have been taken so far. There is deep anger among the people regarding the inaction and silence of the departmental officers. Students, patients, businessmen and a large number of common citizens travel through this road every day, due to which there is a constant possibility of accidents.
Local people have demanded from the administration that the construction work of Bailey Bridge of Anipur should be completed on war footing and this important road situated in front of Sabu should be repaired immediately and the general public should be provided relief from the long standing problems.
