IRCTC New Website: After a long wait, IRCTC's new website has finally been launched. The process of booking rail tickets has been simplified on this website. Find out what other changes have been made.
IRCTC New Website Launched: Indian Railways has taken a major step towards modernizing its online ticket booking system. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched the beta version of its new website for the public. Through this beta version, passengers can experience the website's new design and features and provide their suggestions.
The beta version of the new website is available at https://www.irctc.co.in/eticket/. Additionally, a link to the beta version has been provided on the homepage of the existing IRCTC website.
New website developed based on suggestions from MNIT students
According to the Ministry of Railways, several key improvements to the website were made based on suggestions from students at MNIT, Jaipur. The students offered various suggestions during a discussion with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, after which they were involved in the process of enhancing the website's design and user experience.
It is worth noting that the existing IRCTC website was launched in 2002 and currently handles an average of approximately 1.45 million (14.5 lakh) ticket bookings daily.
What makes the new website special?
The new website has been designed to be simpler, faster, and more user-friendly. Four major changes have been introduced in the beta version:
Improved Interface: Unnecessary captchas, pop-ups, flashing graphics, and distracting elements have been removed.
Seat Availability Across All Classes: Passengers will be able to view seat availability across different classes on a single screen.
Faster Ticket Booking: The number of steps in the ticket booking process has been reduced, making the checkout process faster than before. Easier re-booking: Passengers' saved information will be readily available, eliminating the need to enter details repeatedly.
The Ministry of Railways stated that the objective of this beta version is to gather suggestions and feedback from passengers to refine the final edition; future updates to the website will also be based on this feedback, thereby enhancing the user experience.
New Passenger Reservation Engine Coming Soon
Additionally, the Railways is simultaneously modernizing its Passenger Reservation Engine (PRE)—the system that powers various train ticket booking platforms—which is also set to be launched soon.
The Ministry of Railways states that once the new IRCTC website and the new Passenger Reservation Engine are fully integrated, passengers will enjoy a faster, easier, and more modern online ticket booking experience compared to the past. The fully functional new IRCTC portal will be made available in the coming weeks. The Railways has also urged all users to utilize the new website and share their feedback.
