Youri Tielemans has officially joined Manchester United after the Red Devils activated the £35 million release clause in the Belgium international’s contract with Aston Villa.

Manchester United are now targeting Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado as their next potential signing this summer.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, the Premier League club’s hierarchy, under the guidance of INEOS, have held internal discussions about adding the Barcelona star to strengthen their midfield options.

Casado, who rose through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, has become a regular feature in the Catalan club’s senior squad. The 22-year-old defensive midfielder, who represents Spain at international level, has already secured two LaLiga titles and one Copa del Rey trophy with Barcelona during his career.

TEAMtalk reports that while Casado is open to leaving Barcelona, he is not enthusiastic about moving to Manchester United. The outlet also claims that the young midfielder has rejected opportunities to join Chelsea and Manchester City.

The report further adds: “The Red Devils have been monitoring Casado for some time and have discussed him internally as part of plans to reshape their midfield this summer.

“Manchester United aimed to bring in three central midfielders during this transfer window and have already finalised deals for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, who will join Kobbie Mainoo in Michael Carrick’s reorganised midfield setup.

“Casado was among the players considered during this recruitment phase, but sources suggest he remains hesitant about a move to Old Trafford.”

It is understood that although United admire his talent, Casado believes a transfer to the club would place him in another highly competitive midfield environment, limiting his chances to become an automatic starter. Instead, the 22-year-old is said to be prioritising a project where he can immediately establish himself as a key first-team player.
