In July 2026, Harmanpreet Kaur became the first captain of an Indian women’s team to win a Test match at Lord’s, where her team defeated England by a huge margin of 270 runs in an only Test. This match was also the first women's Test match held at this prestigious venue.

 

Smriti Mandhana contributed significantly in both innings with 83 and 70 runs, and the century made by Yastika Bhatia gave India an added edge. Kranti Gaud shone in the game with figures of 7 wickets, while Sneh Rana picked up 4 wickets in the last innings.

The feat of Virat Kohli came on India’s visit to England in the year 2021 where he led the Indian side to a thumping 151-run win. KL Rahul provided a great start by making a stunning 129 run score in the first innings whereas Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah made life hard for the English team with an unbeaten partnership that allowed India to make a declaration. 

 

Then came an amazing performance from the Indian pace bowlers as they dismissed the English team for just 120 runs.

MS Dhoni ended India's 28-year wait for a Test victory at Lord's with an impressive 95-run win over England in 2014. Ajinkya Rahane's century kept India competitive in the first innings before Bhuvneshwar Kumar's six-wicket haul prevented England from building a substantial lead.

 

Murali Vijay and Ravindra Jadeja then played crucial knocks in the second innings to set England a challenging target. Ishant Sharma delivered one of the greatest spells by an Indian fast bowler at Lord's, taking 7/74 to bowl England out and inspire a famous overseas triumph.

 

Kapil Dev (1986)

 

 

Kapil Dev became the first Indian captain to conquer Lord's when India defeated England by five wickets in 1986. Dilip Vengsarkar's unbeaten 126 gave India a first-innings advantage before Kapil produced a match-changing spell of 4/52 in England's second innings.

 

Maninder Singh also made a vital contribution with three wickets as England were dismissed for 180. Chasing just 134, India completed the task comfortably, with Kapil finishing unbeaten on 23 from only 10 deliveries and striking the winning six. His outstanding all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
