Leeds United have officially announced that goalkeeper Karl Darlow has left the club after turning down a new contract offer at Elland Road. The 33-year-old has now completed a move to Manchester United, where he will serve as a backup option.
In their statement, Leeds United described Darlow as a model professional, praising his dedication both on and off the pitch, including his involvement in community initiatives. During his time at the club, Darlow made a total of 38 appearances.
Darlow joined Leeds ahead of the 2023/24 season and made his debut in a League Cup victory against Shrewsbury Town. His standout performances came later that campaign when he played in the final seven Championship fixtures, helping the team to six wins and ultimately lift the trophy at Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the season.
That same year, Darlow earned his first international cap for Wales in a 2-1 away win over Montenegro. Since then, he has gone on to collect 15 international appearances as Cymru’s first-choice goalkeeper. Upon Leeds’ return to the Premier League, Darlow featured in 22 matches and notably won the Save of the Month award for April, following a remarkable point-blank stop to deny Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ladislav Krejci.
Following Darlow’s departure and Illan Meslier’s move to Arsenal, Leeds manager Daniel Farke is now left with Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns as his goalkeeping options. However, Perri has been linked with a potential transfer to Torino. The club is reportedly interested in signing James Trafford and Zion Suzuki as possible replacements.
