An official complaint has been filed in the cyber cell in this matter and the police has started an investigation.
WhatsApp call using Priyanka Gandhi’s office name
According to information received, Vidya Balakrishnan, an MLA from Elathur constituency in Kerala, received an unknown WhatsApp call on July 6. The caller said his name was ‘Rajkumar’ while communicating in English. He claimed that he was speaking from the official office of newly elected Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi in Delhi. To win the trust of the MLA, the impostor said that he was given this mobile number by a senior MP from the same district. He also tried to trap the MLA by pretending to be to senior Congress leadership.

MLA Vidya Balakrishnan suspected a cyber fraud as the phone call looked highly suspicious from the start. He very bravely continued the conversation with the thug for about 10 minutes without panicking or hanging up. During the conversation, the MLA smartly asked “I am ready to pay, but how will I be made a minister?” Asked that. The fraudster then proceeded to falsify the entire process in detail, revealing his true intentions.

After the phone call ended, MLA Balakrishnan immediately contacted the MP, whose name was taken by the impostor. The MP said, “Some time ago I also received a call from a person claiming to be from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters and asked for the numbers of two MLAs from the district.” After this, MLAs and MPs directly contacted Priyanka Gandhi’s official office in New Delhi and inquired. From there it was clarified that no such call was made from his office and the phone was completely fake.
Cyber criminals’ ‘Delhi connection’ exposed; Investigation begins
After the truth came out, MLA Vidya Balakrishnan filed a formal complaint with the Kozhikode Cyber Cell. When the police started a technical investigation into the matter, the preliminary investigation revealed that the fake WhatsApp call was operated from Delhi. Police have registered a case and intensified investigation to bust this inter-state cyber gang. This has become a topic of discussion not only in the political circles but also in the whole country, cyber police has appealed to the people not to fall prey to calls of suspicious financial demands coming in the name of any VIP or leader.
