Assistant coach of Team India, Ryan ten Doeschate, is rumoured to be leaving India at the end of the current ODI series against England. Though initially it was believed that family commitments were the reason he would be leaving cricket, a recent report suggests a big reason that might have led to the reported exit.
According to PTI, Ten Doeschate has stated that he will quit once his current role ends, but the final call rests with Gautam Gambhir, the coach who has final authority on his support staff.
Ten Doeschate was brought into the Indian set-up on the recommendation of Gambhir after the two had a successful time working together at Kolkata Knight Riders. His previous working relationship with Gambhir proved to be crucial in his selection.

Unfulfilled Role Behind Reported Exit
Previously, Cricbuzz had mentioned that Ten Doeschate was looking forward to spending more quality time with his three sons and family back in London after the exhausting international calendar.
However, the PTI report also suggested that the left-hander's move was related to a coaching post that he was allegedly promised when he signed for the Indians.
A BCCI source said:
"You have Sitanshu Kotak as the batting coach, and there's Gauti (Gambhir) himself to look after the batters. Morne (Morkel) is in charge of pacers, and Sairaj (Bahutule) looks after the spinners. When Tendo (his nickname) was brought on board, he was promised the fielding coach's job."
The report also stated that T Dilip was to be released along with a few other support staff in 2025 after the Champions Trophy. However, Dilip received an extension of one year due to backing by a senior Indian player.
The same source said:
"Dilip was supposed to be removed along with Abhishek Nayar (assistant coach), Soham Desai (S&C coach) and Arun Kanade (masseur) after the 2025 Champions Trophy. However, for Dilip, a strong recommendation came from a senior player, and Dilip got a one-year extension, and Tendo actually didn't have any specific domain role. He is a fantastic coach, who hasn't been used because Dilip is there."
Final Decision Yet to Be Taken
Yet another BCCI official commended Ten Doeschate, "He is an outstanding coach, but his expertise hasn't been fully utilised because the fielding coach's position remains occupied."
Should Gambhir succumb, the current Eng series might see Doeschate's last chore with the national team. Reports suggest that BCCI intends to keep him, but the absence of a distinct coaching position might signal the end of his career with Team India.
