Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui delivered an impressive display at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Moroccan full-back was an integral part of the national team that advanced to the quarter-finals before being eliminated by France.
Mazraoui featured in all six matches of the tournament, starting in five of them, and stood out in the left-back position. The 28-year-old was even deployed as a centre-back against France in the quarter-final clash but was unable to help Morocco progress further.
Despite the defeat, Mazraoui’s performances earned widespread praise and reaffirmed his reputation at Old Trafford. His adaptability was already on display last season when he played as a centre-back during the 1-0 win over Chelsea, showcasing his defensive versatility.
Following his World Cup performances, interest in the Moroccan defender has grown across Europe. Reports previously shared by The Peoples Person suggested that former United manager Ruben Amorim, now managing in Serie A, is eager to reunite with Mazraoui.
Mazraoui joined Manchester United from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024 and has since made 77 appearances for the Red Devils. Of these, 49 came under Amorim’s management before the Portuguese coach was dismissed in January this year.
Amorim has now taken charge of AC Milan and is actively reshaping his team to align with his tactical vision. Given Mazraoui’s ability to function both as a wing-back and a centre-back in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, the Moroccan has emerged as a potential target for the Italian side.
Last season, Mazraoui made 20 appearances across all competitions for United. Though not a consistent starter, he remains a valued squad member at the club.
According to the latest update from Calciomercato, AC Milan are preparing to sell Pervis Estupinan to generate funds for Mazraoui’s transfer. The report explained: “Milan’s plan is clear: to sell Estupinan and use the proceeds from his sale to launch a bid for Mazraoui.”
It further stated: “Negotiations are currently ongoing with Aston Villa for the Ecuadorian full-back, who is set to leave as he no longer fits into the club’s plans. The asking price stands at €20 million, although Villa are hoping to negotiate a lower fee.”
The report also noted: “Estupinan is a specific request from Unai Emery, who previously coached him at Villarreal. Both clubs are confident a deal can be reached soon.”
However, Manchester United are reportedly reluctant to part ways with Mazraoui, with the player’s stance likely to play a crucial role. “Once Estupinan has been sold (a deal Milan hope to finalise shortly), Gerry Cardinale will approach Manchester United, who are not particularly inclined to let Mazraoui go,” the report added.
“It will be vital to assess the player’s intentions: if Mazraoui is open to moving to Milan, he would personally request United to sanction his exit.”
Mazraoui’s flexibility remains a significant asset for manager Michael Carrick, especially as United are set to compete across four competitions next season. With Diogo Dalot as the only recognised right-back currently available, INEOS will be cautious about allowing the Moroccan to leave without securing a suitable replacement first.
