New Delhi: Vishal Kumar a 24 year old resident of Sohanjana who works as a security guard at a factory left for work on Saturday but did not return home. After they were unable to contact him despite several attempts his family filed a missing person complaint at a local police post. The next morning the family’s worries grew after Vishal’s sister who lives in Punjab received a call from Government Medical College Hospital about an unidentified body kept in the mortuary.

The family rushed to the hospital and was shown the body. A scar on the stomach and an injured eye looked similar to Vishal’s identifying marks making the family believe it was him. Believing their son had died they took the body home for the last rites.

From final goodbye to an unbelievable reunion

However as the family reached the Satwari area with the body they received a surprising phone call. One of Vishal’s friends told them that he was alive and was returning home from Bari Brahmana. The family waited in shock and soon Vishal arrived home safely. What they believed was a heartbreaking loss quickly turned into a moment of relief and happiness.

It was later confirmed that the body kept in the mortuary belonged to another person and had been wrongly identified as Vishal. After finding their son alive the family took the unidentified body back to Government Medical College Hospital and apologised for the misunderstanding. The unusual incident has raised serious questions about how unidentified bodies are being identified at the hospital.
