Dozens of passengers of low-cost airline Transavia missed their flights at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport after lengthy overnight queues at the airline’s check-in counters caused significant delays last weekend, with the carrier citing an unexpectedly high volume of summer holiday travelers.
A Transavia spokesperson confirmed the disruptions, saying the airline struggled to process the heavy influx of vacation travelers, resulting in lengthy waits that caused some passengers to miss their departures, The Netherlands’ NL Times reported.
Travelers had been advised to arrive at the airport well ahead of their scheduled flights due to the busy summer travel season.

The airline said the check-in issues had been resolved by Sunday and that it was working to assist affected passengers by finding alternative travel arrangements.
Schiphol Airport previously forecast that more than 12.7 million passengers would travel through the airport during July and August, slightly above the 12.4 million recorded over the same period last year, reflecting continued strong demand for summer travel, Daily Dutch News reported.
Schiphol Airport, the Netherlands’ main international gateway, has long ranked among Europe’s busiest aviation hubs, serving millions of passengers each year. But a sharp increase in summer travel demand has put pressure on its operations, contributing to congestion and longer waiting times.
