New Delhi:Alfa Romeo has released the first teaser image of its new C-segment SUV, expected to make its global debut in late 2027 or early 2028. The teaser shows the rear end of the car, unveiling a new lighting signature with sharper taillamps and a sculpted back quarter panel.
Also, the styling seems to indicate a more sloping, coupe-like roofline, unlike the more upright silhouette of the present-day Tonale. The teaser shows a new C-SUV based on the Stellantis STLA Medium Platform. Which means it isn’t the long-awaited Stelvio model which would be riding on the STLA Large Platform. This model will sit between the existing Tonale and the upcoming Stelvio and have a new name.
Since in Europe there is already a car that sits below the Tonale called Junior, it is unlikely that the new car will sit below the Tonale.
Is Alfa building another Crossover? The upcoming Alfa Romeo C-segment SUV will be offered with a range of powertrain options, including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants. However, not every version is expected to be available in all global markets, including the United States. The SUV is based on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, which models including Jeep Compass, Lancia Gamma and Peugeot 3008 already ride on.
The new model’s styling will be from Alfa Romeo’s design team in Turin, Italy. While only a teaser has been revealed so far, it does hint towards a sleek, coupe-inspired rear profile that should give the SUV a sporty appearance. However, it remains to be seen how this affects the boot space.
Production is scheduled to start at Alfa Romeo’s Melfi plant in Italy during the final quarter of 2027. The current Giulia and Stelvio are expected to remain in production until then, before being replaced by the next generation. The Tonale, despite receiving a recent facelift, might be replaced around the same time with an all-new model.
Alfa Romeo had also previously teased a Bottega Fuoriserie project made in partnership with Maserati. However, the details are still minimal and expected to be some type of sports car.
