RTO Services: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has expanded the scope of Aadhaar based faceless online service, giving a big relief to vehicle owners and driving license holders. Now the number of online services available through voluntary Aadhaar authentication has been increased from 58 to 100. With this, people will not need to visit RTO for many important works.

Many tasks to driving license are now online
Under the new services, citizens will now be able to do things like applying for driving license (DL), adding new vehicle category to the existing license, permanently surrendering the driving license and updating the mobile number linked to DL online.

Facility will be available even without Aadhaar
The ministry has clarified that Aadhaar authentication is completely voluntary. Those who do not have Aadhaar or do not wish to use it can verify their identity by submitting an alternative identity document. In such cases, all services can be availed by adopting offline process through the concerned authority.

Many works to RC also became faceless
Many services to Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) have also now been made online. These include facilities like changing name, updating mobile number, renewal of RC, adding nominee or changing its information, cancellation of NOC by the owner and cancellation of RC.

Tax refund and ownership transfer also online
Now vehicle owners will be able to pay motor vehicle tax and complete the tax refund process online. Apart from this, in case of death of the vehicle owner, ownership transfer of the vehicle can also be done online.

These services were also included
The new online services also include facilities like adding, deleting or continuing hypothecation, changing vehicle category from commercial to personal category, registration of vintage vehicles and obtaining a new registration mark after transfer to another state.

The objective of these changes is to provide more transparent, faster and digital services to vehicle owners and driving license holders without visiting RTOs.
